Health Workforce Programme

LAMB aim to increase competent, compassionate, health and development work throughout Bangladesh by training LAMB, NGO, and Government staff in work skills, attitudes, and values. From LAMB Nursing and Midwifery Institute graduates deployed in the health care fields at LAMB or elsewhere lead to contribution to Universal Health Coverage. Of all nurse graduates 94% are serving in the healthcare fields working in government hospitals and health clinics, as well as with LAMB and other NGO’s.

Primary Health Course

Skills and knowledge for various community-based health promotion and disease prevention tasks, usually in house-to-house and neighbourhood group settings.

Community Fistula Advocate Training

Women who have had successful fistula repair surgery are trained in basic advocacy skills. They learn to identify and refer other women who could benefit from corrective surgery.

Midwifery Course

Course content set by the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council, with LAMB functioning as an Academic Site for BRAC University, is enhanced by LAMB’s practical opportunities and participatory methods. The course includes pregnancy and birth, postnatal and newborn care. Trainees are expected to become advocates for women’s health and community resources for health promotion. Of the graduates to date, deployment has been 40% to government, 30% to Rohingya refugee camp work, and 30% to NGOs.

Nursing Course

Nurse-midwives are trained at the Nursing Institute to diploma-level. A 3-year programme is run in collaboration with LAMB’s Training Centre. Medical, nursing and other health staff rotate through the teaching schedule learning together. 100% of graduates to date have passed their certification exams through Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council. Nurse deployment has been 35% to government posts, 58% to NGOs work, and 7% to private clinics.

Hospital Doctors Training

Training at LAMB is approved for FCPS (Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Medicine, Paediatric, and Surgical Training include knowledge through class time and and skills based work one on one skills-based training and mentoring.

Hospital Support Providers

Building specific skills related to hospital and clinical health care. Medical and Physio Assistant courses, Medical Specialist courses, and various laboratory courses are offered.

Other

  • Training of Trainers (ToT): to transform professionals into trainers for their professional skills, focused on clinical.

  • Professional courses tailored to organisational need. For example: kangaroo care orientation for health trainers; Helping Babies Breathe
