Bangladesh is a country of extremes. It's a fertile and beautiful country with great potential experiencing rapid economic growth. As the home of microcredit, Bangladesh inspires and encourages entrepreneurship to alleviate poverty. And, yet, it is one of the poorest countries in Asia.
One of the world's most densely populated countries, Bangladesh’s growing population, experiences frequent natural disasters and flooding. With low lying land and climate change causing rising sea levels, coastal land is disappearing. Communities are losing their homes, lives are endangered and livelihoods destroyed.
The vision for LAMB began in the early 1950s with Mr. John Otteson, from the American Santal Mission. He saw an urgent need for the hundreds of thousands of people who had no access to proper healthcare.
Today, LAMB Hospital treats approximately 55,000 outpatients every year – nearly 230 a day. 7,500 inpatients a year are given surgery or medical treatment, and around 2,500 babies delivered.

LAMB facilitates 25 union-level clinics in communities around the Hospital, each meeting the needs of 33,000 people. The clinics provide pregnancy care and support community development and disaster preparedness activities. LAMB is growing capacity in local Government health clinics, training clinical staff and facilitating community oversight and accountability.
LAMB provides high quality training for our own staff, Government and other NGO health workers. Because of access to community and hospital health and socio-economic data, LAMB is increasingly called upon to assist in research programmes. Recognised for its high quality services, LAMB sets an example to national and worldwide health and development hospitals and organisations.
Despite its growth, LAMB retains its original purpose to serve God through serving the poor and underprivileged, particularly women and children.
