Disability support
The focus for LAMB’s disability support is for children, but we do provide livelihood training and occupational therapy for disabled adults too.
Paediatric Rehabilitation Intensive Care
A short term residential facility is available at LAMB Hospital with 6 beds for children and parents to stay while they receive examination, therapy, or are being fitted with assistive devices. Parents get training in how to treat their children at home.
Trained physiotherapy assistants are available to analyse cases and develop therapy and exercise programs for patients.
Assistive devices such as wheelchairs, sitting and standing frames and limb supports are made at LAMB or are purchased, for patients.
The Ponsetti Method for treating Clubfoot has been used since 2009. The programme is part of the Walk for Life national network for clubfoot restorative work.
A limited nutrition support programme is in place for disabled children admitted to the hospital or Rehab Centre.
Adults with disability
An experienced expatriate provides plant nursery management training for a growing group of local men and women with mostly physical but some mental disabilities. The group are encouraged to develop their own nursery for income generation, increasing the dignity of an often-neglected group.
