Short-term International volunteer positions
All of the following positions could be applied for as long-term roles too, and Bangladeshis are welcome to apply. 

The length of stay for short-term staff at LAMB varies from as short as 1 week up to 2 year. Usually a minimum of 4 weeks is expected for those with advanced skills.

The majority of short-term international volunteers are Christian, but it is not an essential requirement. Please email the LAMB short-term volunteer coordinator for further information on any of the following positions or about skills you have to offer STW@lambproject.org.

The current and near-future LAMB needs for new volunteers are as follows:

Paediatrician

LAMB Hospital has a very busy Paediatric department, with approximately 2500 deliveries per year, and a busy outpatient and inpatient unit for general paediatrics, as well as an inpatient and outpatient unit for disabled children. LAMB is looking for a Paediatrician to eventually replace its existing long-term consultant in ensuring quality service for the rural poor of north Bangladesh and helping give clinical leadership to a team of 3 senior and 2-3 junior Bangladeshi doctors. A senior trainee would also be suitable and would find an extended stay (several months) stimulating and fulfilling. 

Financial Analyst

A skilled financial analyst is desired to analyse the financial status of the many service centres and support services of LAMB. Input regarding trends, forecasts, and recommended actions, such as changes in methods, materials or policies, are needed to help LAMB ensure a sustainable business model for the future. The financial analyst helps determine costs of operations by establishing standard costs and identifies financial status by comparing and analysing actual results with plans and forecasts (variances) for all relevant departments. The position may involve financial planning, strategy development, and research for any or all of LAMB’s support services and service centres. There are opportunities for interested candidates to work remotely, in their own country.  

Allied Health Specialist (Physio/OT/ Speech and Language)

LAMB’s 150 bed hospital operates a rehabilitation unit for disabled children, for up to 6 inpatients, and also over 1500 outpatients, both at hospital and remote community clinics. Also, adult therapy services are offered for in and outpatients. LAMB is seeking for an allied health specialist to give clinical support and guidance to our local therapy assistants in all three therapy disciplines, and other paramedical, nursing and medical staff. A commitment of at least 1 year is preferable. 

A licensed counselor who can provide counseling services to referred persons who are seeking help for improved mental/ emotional health. Will also be required to supervise lay workers at primary care level in community who are trained listeners/ first responders and provide such training. Additionally, will train LAMB staff in counseling skills. Experience in trauma healing, suicide prevention, and various rural health appropriate counseling modalities appreciated.

Midwife

LAMB Learning and Development Center runs various types of Maternal and Child health care trainings. For example, Diploma in Midwifery (3-year) Education Programme, Safe and Clean Delivery Training, Normal Vaginal Delivery Training, Complications of the Antenatal, Labouring and Postnatal Mother. These programs would welcome the input of an experienced midwife for both students and instructors.  Other needs are for midwifery clinical supervision of students, in-service education, and quality assurance consultation. 

EFL Teacher  

LAMB values it’s employees and their career goals and actively works to invest in motivated employees. There are several opportunities for an EFL teacher to invest in LAMB employees through teaching English, whether as a weeklong intensive or for shorter classes over the course of several months. EFL Teachers could also assist by editing English publications that LAMB produces. 

Quality Assurance Coordinator for Learning and Development Center 

LAMB Learning and Development Center is a well-known organization in Bangladesh, with specialization in Maternal and Child Health Care service. LAMB training aims to be values and skills based. In this regard, LAMB’s Learning and Development Center has need for a quality assurance coordinator to ensure training quality to international, evidenced-based standards.

Orthotist

 LAMB operates a rehabilitation unit for children with disabilities, including a clubfoot program and also adult therapy services. Many of the children seen come with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and as such ankle foot-orthotics (AFOs) are needed. LAMB is seeking for an orthotist who will be willing to come and train local staff on how to do such orthosis and to set up a running program that will ensure sustainability of such a service. A commitment of at least 1 year is preferable.  

Experienced obstetrician / gynecologist (OBGyn specialist)

LAMB Hospital has a very busy OBGyn department, with approximately 2500 deliveries per year, and a busy outpatient and inpatient unit for antenatal, postnatal and gynaecological patients. LAMB is looking for a second female OBGyn specialist to support its existing long-term consultant in ensuring quality service for the rural poor of north Bangladesh and helping give clinical leadership to a team of 3-4 senior and 4-5 junior Bangladeshi doctors. 

Anaesthetist

LAMB is seeking a qualified anaesthetist to support the team of non-medical anaesthetists here. The anaesthetic team consists of 2 senior nurse anaesthetists, a medical assistant anaesthetist, and two new nurses. Two other nurses also help with on-calls. The hospital has 3 operating theatres, one for mainly general/gynaecology, one for obstetrics and one for small procedures and endoscopies. There is a need for a physician anaesthetist to expand the teaching of the newer anaesthesia nurses, to improve the skills of existing nurses, to help manage complex patients within a limited resource setting, and to maintain resuscitation skills. 

Epidemiologist / Research analyst

LAMB partners with local and international researchers to plan, execute and publish high quality research primarily in mother and child health and health systems. LAMB is seeking an epidemiologist / experienced health researcher to join the team to handle an increased demand for the department’s services and the need to further train current staff. 

Teachers (Preschool – Grade 10):

LAMB English Medium School serves a student population of around 130 Bangladeshi and some international children, from 4 to 16 years of age. The school uses adapted British National Curriculum for a Bangladeshi context. While long-term service (2 years or more) is preferred, shorter periods of service are also welcome. Ability to work well cross-culturally, grow together with, and train national staff is essential. Formal teaching experience preferred, but not required. Current opportunities for teaching online.  

Laboratory Physician

LAMB Hospital offers laboratory services to support its 150 inpatient beds and an average of 200+ outpatients daily. Basic haematology, biochemistry, immunohematology, serology and microbiology services are offered. LAMB seeks a Laboratory Physician, ideally for 6 to 12 months or more to support our trained Bangladeshi laboratory staff to offer a quality-assured laboratory service for this busy general hospital serving the rural poor of North West Bangladesh. 

Media and Graphic Design Specialist    

LAMB’s Resource Development and Communications Department is seeking a professional with skills in the areas of videography and video editing, graphic design, and/or web design. The three-person team would appreciate assistance with annual projects as well as training in your area of expertise.
