Wholistic and Spiritual Health Development Programme

LAMB wants to see people full of life, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually healthy, experiencing and understanding the love of Christ.

LAMB as a faith-based organisation works toward a vision, ‘That all may have abundant life.

The mission of LAMB is also centred on ‘serving God through serving the poor’ - our work is for God’s glory. We work through a group of mixed nationalities and professions to provide an integrated organisation that works to reduce barriers to health.

LAMB’s Spiritual Health Programme has two goals:

  1. People in contact with LAMB experience the love of Christ and are offered help to understand that experience.

  2. Health is defined as a whole state of well-being including physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional components.

LAMB’s approach is to orient staff, trainees, and the public to the spiritual mission, vision, and values of LAMB and to link with and strengthen local churches. Our methods highlight Biblical values-based ethical and quality standards for services across all our work.

A distinctive Christian approach seeks change for those who are most vulnerable, and challenges unjust power structures such as malpractice and abuse of power.

Christian staff make up about 39% of our employees and members of local churches are given the opportunity for Bible study, church leadership courses and courses based on increasing awareness of God’s work for all nations (Kairos). NonChristian staff (about 12% Hindu, 49% Muslim) are encouraged to explore these Biblical values as they are consistent with their own religious teaching.

Chaplains

LAMB has a dedicated staff of 4 hospital chaplains, who are available to pray with patients and families and answer questions amid difficult health situations. 3 community chaplains also participate in community meetings to bring awareness of God’s teaching about health and wholeness. And to share messages of hope and inclusion to neglected, stigmatised groups such as mothers of disabled children.

Working through Churches

LAMB contacts with community churches have been focused on spiritual relationships, rather than building of empowerment. Through an approach called ‘Together’ , local church members are trained in a similar approach to the Participatory Action Research described on our social development page. The approach builds a foundation of God’s desire for justice for the poor to encourage church members to engage with the social needs of their neighbours.
