RESEARCH
Objectives
To develop and participate in high quality ethical research that seeks to address rural health problems in Bangladesh.The scope of the program includes clinical (hospital and community), epidemiological, economic and systems research.
We also aim to:
- Provide resources and support tools for other parts of LAMB to participate in research and to disseminate research results.
- Improve LAMB’s ability to do research by developing a pool of staff with a variety of research skills.
- Develop systems to monitor ongoing research at LAMB.
- Ensure that research at LAMB is done in a way that respects subjects and looks for emotional and spiritual health outcomes.

Prolonged Labor Birth Asphyxia (PLBA)

Type of research: Focused ethnography and program evaluation
Objectives: Our primary objective is to improve community-based strategies and interventions that reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity resulting from prolonged/obstructed labor and birth asphyxia. We will apply the findings of the formative research activities to develop and evaluate culturally appropriate strategies and interventions that target the prevention and crisis recognition of and initial response to prolonged/obstructed labor and birth asphyxia, including timely referral.
Determinants of post-operative outcomes in fistula repair surgery.

Objective: This will be a prospective, observational clinical research study. The primary focus of the data collection will be to explore predictors of success and complications of fistula repair.
Reducing Induced Abortion

Overall objective: To involve women in intentional awareness building about family planning in general and MR/ induced abortion in particular enabling them to make better informed reproductive health decisions.
