LOCATION

LAMB Hospital is in northwest Bangladesh, about 320 km by road from Dhaka, the capital city. It is located in Dinajpur District. The area that LAMB serves for its community work lies within a circle around the main site of about 40 km.

LAMB Hospital lies on the smaller direct route between Dinajpur and Rangpur cities, about 30 km east of Dinajpur and 40 km west of Rangpur. The hospital itself is in a rural setting, but the nearest town, Parbatipur lies only 2 km to the east. Parbatipur, a town of about 30,000 people, is well known in Bangladesh because of the railway. It is at a junction of north-south and east-west railway lines, and is also home to one of the biggest railway workshops in the country.

Travel to LAMB from Dhaka is possible by either road or rail. By road, the journey takes typically 6-7 hours, mostly on major roads. There are direct trains from Dhaka to Parbatipur, either by day or overnight, with the journey taking 7-9 hours. Saidpur Airport is 20 minutes drive from LAMB, but currently there are no scheduled services.

The climate varies during the year. Much of the year is rather hot and humid. April to September has typical daytime temperatures around 35C, with night time just a little cooler. Humidities are high and there is considerable rain. November to February are very nice months, dry, cool, typically sunny in the daytime. Temperatures at night can go as low as about 5C.

Our regeion does not tend to be directly affected by earthquakes, flooding, or cyclones.
